Oregon Sunset at Surf Camp

You'll learn a Vinyasa (flow yoga practice) daily during our morning beach yoga, which will allow you to continue your practice after the Retreat. Our daily surf camps will be held at several locations over the week to provide participants an in-depth and personal understanding of the diverse surfing conditions on Oregon's beaches. Our highly qualified Certified Lifeguard Instructors will provide a safe, progressive and dynamic teaching environment for you. We'll work with students to develop their skills at the pace in which they grasp them. Our enthusiasm for your success is mutually shared between us!

Bus transportation daily from the beach house to our chosen beach location is provided. Because of the close and convenient location of our lodgings to the beach and Downtowns, you can park your car for the Retreat and not have to go into busy summer traffic. We recommend you bring your bicycle to enjoy rides about the area. One evening we'll offer an optional Bicycle Tour. There are bicycle rental shops, if you decide not to bring your own bike and would like to rent one. (The Seaside Retreat has a few bikes available) Optional evening activities on other nights are offered.

During the July Retreat, we'll have an "Evening Out in Astoria" where wonderful galleries, bars, boutiques and historical venues are the draw. For August Retreat, we'll have an "Evening out in Nehalem Valley", where the artist colonies have relocated. Fun galleries, gift shops, and venues to visit in the heavenly valley of Nehalem!

All wetsuit, wetsuit parts, Gath helmet and surfboard equipment is included and will be "custom fitted" on the first day of the Retreats. NWWSC also provides rescue tubes, a rescue surfboard and complete first aid kit at each day's camp, in case of an emergency.

A NWWSC Zippered Hooded Sweatshirt and Partner's Gift Bag of gifts, discounts and goodies are yours as souvenirs of the Week's Retreats! "Remember a Retreat is a "Treat" you give yourself!"

I am honored to be partnering with an amazing group of talented individuals during this year's Retreats.  Meet our wonderful surf instructors on our site's About Us page.

The Chef / Owner Bob Necroni, of EVOO Culinary School in Cannon Beach is our caterer for all meals during our Retreats.  His menu focus and specialty is on organic and locally grown nutritious NW food ingredients. Seafood, poultry and vegetarian dishes will be highlighted. Vegetarians are welcome! His creations are a "taste to behold".

Licensed massage therapists for the surf retreats are from Seaside Spa and Wellness Center, Jody Herring and Carol Mathre. The both offer a menu of massage choices for you to choose from during the Retreats. Two hours of massage are included in the cost of Retreats. Additional massage services can be arranged at the rate of $80/hour. Relaxation, renewal and rejuvenation are the gifts they both bring to the Retreats.

The Surfrider Foundation Oregon Chapter's Coastal Coordinator Peter Staufferwill be presenting "NW Beach Ecology" during one of our camp luncheons. He is an extraordinary conservationist, activist and surfer.

Experienced Local Tour Driver, Mark Jamison of Seaside's Best Tours, will be our trusted driver to each of the day's surf camp events.  Mark's enthusiasm and knowledge of the North Coast area and local history is a plus!  His shared belief in sustainable, low impact transportation alternatives is why we've partnered for all day camps, weekenders and retreats this season.

Our exclusive camp photographer, Debra LaCoppola, from her and her husband's business, Photoduo.com, will be attending and shooting as many days as possible during the Retreat. Deb is a well known Manhattan photographer for Getty Images in New York City. Deb's passion for photographing women in the NW brings an extra special souvenir to share with participants this year.  Photos will be posted to our website's Photo Gallery after the Retreat.  From here, participants can print off copies complimentary.

"I am so thankful for each of their participation and contribution to the success of our NWWSC Retreat in 2008!"

Women's Week Surf Retreat Packing Recommendations

For Day Camps Essentials, go to our website menu and print off a list.

In addition to the items you will need (or possibly want) to bring to the Day Camps, you will also want to consider bringing the following with you for the Retreat:

1. A bicycle. Both towns are bicycle friendly and fun to check out on a bike. We'll be offering an optional bike tour at the August Week Retreat. There are a few bikes available at the August Retreat house. If you are attending the July Retreat and would like a bike and don't want to bring your own, there are bicycle rental shops in town.
2. Your favorite pillow &/or blanket. Linen and bedding are provided, but nice to have your own personal bed comforts.
3. A favorite inspirational poem, saying, thought or passage. On our last evening together, we will have an evening bonfire after dinner. We can share with one another our favorites.
4. Layered clothing. Even in the summer months on the North Oregon Coast, we can have cool evenings and windy conditions in the afternoons. Bring clothing that will be easy to add to or take off, depending on the temperature. A windbreaker is a must!
5. Ugg sheepskin boots or similar warm footwear. The perfect companion after a day of surfing or at a beach bonfire. Instant warmth for your footsies!
6. A journal. On special personal adventures and retreats, it's nice to have a travel journal to write your thoughts, experiences and new friends contact info.
7. A book. The coast is a great place to cuddle up with your favorite novel.
8. A camera with film. We have an amazing woman photographer who attends most of the camps. We make available those photos taken by her to you, on our website's photo gallery. They are printable from our gallery. When she is unable to attend an event, then I take several group photos to add to the site. It's nice to have your own camera for your personal photo preferences.
9. An alarm clock. So you can rise when you would like to. Breakfast is served Continental Style for 2 hours in the morning. You can get up and eat during that timeframe.
10. Personals, vitamins and medicine. We can not disperse medicine to Retreat participants. A First Aid Emergency Kit is available during Day Camps and at the Retreat, if needed.

These packing recommendations and the "Essentials to Pack List" are provided to assure you have everything possible, you may need, for a great time! Please feel free to call or email me with any further questions regarding the Retreat. We all look forward to sharing with you, this unique NW Women's Surf Camp Retreat!
